Fairtrade Visit
Such a rewarding activity at Hong Kong Crossroads! We take a role in the process from coffee growing to coffee retailing. Stimulating discussion invites all to look for alternatives.Now we know the situation of coffee growers, exporters, importers, roasters and retailers much better than before. We understand the concept of FAIRTRADE more and we are ready to spread the message to others.

The Struggle For Survival (Paper Bag Simulation)
Participants try to earn enough to survive by making paper bags out of newspaper and home made glue. They must earn enough to pay for rent, food, sanitation, medical needs and, if they are fortunate, education. Those that cannot make it end up in the hands of a loan shark. This game throws participants into the hopelessness and intricacy of the poverty web.

International Church Visit (18/12/2011)
International church visit: St. Andrew’s Church Family Services and Musical Play. The message brings out the theme of Christmas “Presence”- The Presence of Jesus. Students found this experience a valuable one for this is not only a regular Christmas service but also a unique cultural experience for them.

Red Cross Health Check Service (15/12/2011)
Red Cross members provided health check service for all Makopanians. Health check items include blood pressure test, body fat test and height measurement. We also arouse students' awareness about the importance of mental,physical and social health through a variety of games.

Hooray! Today's Christmas English Day was a success! Christmas is a time to love and to have fun! 3B students prepared loads of clever, funny and meaningful game stalls for Makopanians today. Students enjoyed getting into it and we all had a wonderful afternoon.

2nd Workshop - 'Growing Together’ Pilot Project (13/12/2011)
Yesterday, two expert gardeners, David and Bing, visited our students and teachers again. They conducted the second workshop of the organic planting project. Around 30 students and teachers joined the workship and they learnt how to keep their plants healthy. With the help of the gardeners, they harvested some of their plants in the micro-garden at the school campus too!

Geography Day (2/12/2011)
Six game stalls were set up during Geography Day for our students to learn about some Geography knowledge like the seven continents and four oceans, common conventional signs, landforms and contour maps. Students also have a lot of fun practising the skills of direction and scale and distance. All participants were motivated to use English to interact with the well-trained helpers. Over 200 students were present at the hall at lunchtime. The event was a great success.

Today is our History Day! Thanks to our helpers, we set up different game stalls for participants to use English outside classroom and learn more about Ancient Egypt as well as Ancient Greece. The event was a great success. Over 120 students joined the English activities at the hall during lunchtime. They not only enjoyed the games, but also knew much more about the lives of Ancient Egyptians and Ancient Greeks!

Developing Young Short Story Writer Workshop (CUHK and MKP)
Give thanks! Last Saturday (29 Oct), our English teachers and instructors from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) successfully organized a writing workshop titled “Developing Young Short Story Writer Workshop” for all S2 students. Students learnt how to develop ideas for their stories and how to write good dialogues. They will continue learning how to be creative writers in English lessons and will participate in the Joint School Short Story Writing Competition organized by CUHK.

1st Workshop - 'Growing Together’ Pilot Project (17/10/2011)
Give thanks! A team of expert gardeners visited our campus this Monday. They showed us how to plant a variety of organic vegetables and shared with us the educational values of building a micro-garden at a school campus. Around 40 students and teachers joined this workship. They learnt a lot about organic planting and they all said that they would be eager to share their produce with others in the future!

'Growing Together’ Launch Ceremony
Give thanks! Yesterday, we attended the Launch Ceremony of the ‘Growing Together’ pilot project organised by the British Chamber of Commerce and HSBC. With their help, we will build a micro-garden and learn more about environmental sustainability through organic plant cultivation on campus. We will also share our yields and experience with students of our partnership school, Renaissance College, and other schools (e.g. St. Paul’s Convent School) which have also joined this flagship programme.

Rachel Chan Sin Tong 5A has been elected the 2011 Outstanding Red Cross Youth Member of the West New Territory District (Red Cross WNTD Youth Unit). Rachel will represent WNTD to run for the Hong Kong Outstanding Red Cross Youth Member Election held by Red Cross Head Office.

English Musical Appreciation – Les Miserables
Give thanks! Around 100 Ma Ko Pan students and parents went to watch the English musical, Les Miserables, organised by Tuen Mun Outstanding Students’ Association at Tuen Mun Town Hall yesterday. Ian Ng, our 7B studdent, played the roles of Bamatabois, Grantaire and one of the convicts in the musical. His performance was superb and the English musical especially the Finale was truly amazing. It encouraged us to think about the goals in our lives and build together a society of justice and love.

Study Tour in Australia (8/8/2011-21/8/2011)
Special thanks should be given to Heritage Christian School (HCS) principal, teachers, students as well as our students’ host families. Our students did enjoy their time at HCS in Port Macquarie, Kincumber and Sydney from 8th August to 21st August, 2011. It is all because of the love and care shown by their Aussie friends. Our students have not only learnt native English but also learnt Australian culture as well as problem-solving and interpersonal skills.

English Games in the Hall (14/9)
Forms 1 & 2 students had a fun time in the school hall at lunchtime, September 14. Mr Weakley organised 10 games for the students to play and 2F did an excellent job organizing the games and giving out well-deserved rewards. As well as prizes, Form 1 students were given an evaluation sheet to complete, saying how they benefited from the games.

Give thanks! Today we were honoured to be visited by missionaries from U.S.A. and Canada. All the students and teachers enjoyed their songs, sharing and presentations. A number of students even determined to follow Christ at the end of the activity.

The Seminar of Educational Partners Inspiring Tomorrow’s Global Leaders (PolyU) (28/5/2011)
On 28 May, 5 Makopanians attended the Seminar of Educational Partners Inspiring Tomorrow’s Global Leaders at HK Polytechnic University. The speakers at the seminar inspired them in different ways and they could learn how to become successful global leaders in the future. It also allowed them to understand the reasons why the University of California has become one of the most successful universities and how she will help their students become successful persons in the future.

NSS & HKESD Exhibition and Assessment Day
On 16 of April, 39 NSS students participated in a NSS & HKESD Programme organized by the Hong Kong Institute of Education for Sustainable Development. On that day, students had to design exhibition boards and give presentations in order to promote different routes of ecological and sustainable tourisms. There were altogether 21 entries in this competition. One of our teams was awarded the prize of “My Favorite Exhibition Board”. The final result will be announced later on.
